David Levithan, Every Day (via biwwfy)
All I have ever known is holding onto everything I know,
I want to know surrender,
like my skin knows my fingerprints
and like my heart knows what it’s like to pump blood
and what it feels like to breathe
in and out.
When love comes knocking on my door,
I want to be able to surrender it all,
here are the skeletons in my closet, please
take them from me.
here are the muddy foot prints on my rug, please
wash them clean.
here are the voices in my head that whisper lie after lie to me, please
shout over them and right into my heart.
when all I have known is consistency,
please give me change,
so that I may change the world
with the kind of love that knows the darkness,
but chooses the light anyways.
